Windshield Replacement - The Basic Steps :


Getting Started

  • Step 1. Check the Auto for pre existing damage.
  • Step 2. Cover and protect the auto to detour any damage.

Removing the old auto Glass

  • Step 3. The cowl, wipers, trim and moldings must be removed.
  • Step 4. Piano wire knife the damaged windshield from the pinchweld and remove.

New glass Preparation and sizing

  • Step 5. Cut the original urethane seal to 1/16 inch thickness.
  • Step 6. Clear the debris.
  • Step 7. Check new windshield for size by test installing it without sealers.

Setting the Primer and Urethane

  • Step 8. The proper adhesive (urethane) is selected based on temperature, humidity, air bag and time the vehicle can remain out of service.
  • Step 9. Apply pinchweld primer into the pinchweld surfaces.
  • Step 10. Clean the new windshield to be installed, Interior only.
  • Step 11. Windshield perimeter should be cleaned with glass preparation solution.
  • Step 12. Apply primer to windshield perimeter.
  • Step 13. Apply urethane adhesive.

Final installation

  • Step 14. Lay the new windshield in place, and center it accordingly.
  • Step 15. Install trim molding.
  • Step 16. Reinstall wipers, cowl and any other items removed.

After Checklist

  • Step 17. Inspect the windshield for Air leaks.
  • Step 18. Inspect and clean the vehicle.
  • Step 19. Brief the car owner about after care.
  • Step 20. Allow the auto proper time for the new Windshield to set.
